The Lounge (2020)

The installation consists of the work The Forest hanging like a chandelier above two armchair sculptures. The piece stains over time the soft carpeted environment recalling a sensation of a ‘faux-pas” (an embarrassing or tactless act or remark in a social situation). The ‘light” from the chandelier is replaced by dark-mass forms. Almost as eyes, surveillance cameras or sensors, as the carbonized sugar reacts to changing temperature of the space, they follow the spectators, reversing the perspective between the viewing subject and viewed objects. The Lounge is a waiting room, a salon-like scene, a film set – ready for a drama to begin, an encounter to happen. Whether this possible encounter can be social or with a non-human, it becomes an opportunity for self-exploration – for probing one’s bodily and psychological boundaries. One of the inspirations for the piece was The Black lodge – a space between dimensions or self and outside world – in David Lynch Twin Peaks tv series.
